Bad Sports Weekend But I’m Going NBC Green

Bad weekend for sports in the Barrington household:

  1. Notre Dame lost in triple overtime to Navy (first time in 43 years).
  2. Indianapolis Colts lost to the New England Patriots (does anyone know why the greeting between the coaches at the end was so cold).

I was pretty discouraged until I saw NBC’s green logo.  They are going Green this week in all of their shows.  As soon as I saw the logo my heart strangely warmed and I became an environmentalist.  When I saw on Sunday Night Football that they were going to turn the lights off in the studio with Bob Costas I converted to environmental causes.  Who knew?  What in the crap is NBC thinking?  I would love to have been in the meeting where the room said, “Yea, that’s a good idea!”

[NBC entertainment chief Ben] Silverman also announced that all of NBC’s prime-time shows would participate in a companywide pro-environmental project called “Green Is Universal” for a week in November. Every show on NBC would have a story line with an environmental theme, Mr. Silverman said.
All of NBC Universal’s channels would be involved, said Lauren Zalaznick, president of the Bravo channel, who is leading the effort. She said the purpose was “to try to change the way we think and hopefully the way we and other people think — and act.”

Give me a break!!!  Shouldn’t someone be fired over this fiasco of an idea? (and I’m for environmental issues…my take on the creation narrative…but this is gimmicky and I want to throw up!  I’m now closing this blog so I can turn on every light in my house in protest!)

  1. i went green for a spell and turned off the halftime show. i feel all warm and good inside for my part in saving the whales of the polar rainforest. it’s the least I could do.

since i’ve got more friends in the Navy than at ND I was glad to hear the midship-persons won in triple overtime. I was just sad it took that long for ND to realize they were in trouble of losing and finally play like it.

ND has been such a let down that the Colts’ loss wasn’t as disappointing as it could have felt. I missed the postgame due to my soon-returned interest in going green. Those polar rainforest whales need us and our electricity!

  2. Once again, political correctness prevails. You cannot convince me that there is not a broader agenda at play here. I’m not a conspiracy theorist at heart (although, I’ve been to the grassy knoll several times taking measurements), but there is no inconvenient truth to the theory that is not countered by reputable and fomidable expert testimony that the “greens” refuse to acknowledge. All of this confirms in my mind that there are two systems at work in this world: God’s vs. Fallen Man. Hmmm, thinking I might write a tome dealing with what I jocularly call City of Man against City of God. In this work I will predict that Charlie Weis has two years left at ND, tops.

  3. I’ve been thinking about this over my lunch break. I think Living Stones should dedicate the rest of the year to being green. And by that, I mean, more green in the offering plate. Come on, Living Stoners, let’s out-green Al Gore with generosity. (Maybe it’s the corned beef hash for lunch.)
