Well…we lost tonight – 11-2.  But it was a good Prudential Insurance team.

Other than a rough start in the first inning, our defense actually played quite well.  We just need to get more power behind the bats.

The best was the crowd cheering us on!  Even one of the guys from the Prudential team commented that we had a great crowd out tonight.

My pants are still white and I noticed that the chants when I get up to bat are now “get dirty” “get dirty!” After game number 3 – pants…can still go unwashed!!

No game next Monday because of Memorial Day, but if you aren’t doing anything on Monday, June 1st – come on out to Belleville Park (Yellow field) to cheer on the Living Stones Church.

Grocery Giveaway

Posted: May 16, 2009 in Living Stones Church, vision

I pulled into the church parking lot for the grocery giveaway and it was packed!!  Holy cow…what a turnout! It may have been one of the best (if not thee best) turnout I’ve seen for a REEF event.  AND there were about 100 bags of groceries that were delivered to 100 different units at the Miami Hills apartments.  Great mix of people…loved watching the children get involved in the service…I’M VERY PROUD!!! Great job to Kristin Harris and Michelle Vaughn as well as the REEF team led by Wally Last for putting together an AWESOME event.

Here are a few shaky pictures I took from my blackberry (I got to figure out how to take pictures on this thing!)

This is Broadway Christian Parish (a  United Methodist Church).  Their Pastor is Nancy Nichols.  They are located on Carroll St. on the south side of South Bend.  I’ve never met Nancy.  And I don’t know a lot about Broadway Christian Parish EXCEPT they do a TON to feed, cloth, and take care of “the least-of-these” (Matthew 25:40)  in our community.  They have the servant heart of Jesus and over and over again I have been impressed with what I have seen and heard from this church.

In regards to my criteria of importance – “If this church were to cease to exist, would anyone in the community even notice?” I would answer if this church ceased to exist there would be a large void of compassion, kindness, and generosity to those who are in need of mercy.

To continue to serve the neighborhood around them, they have a steady stream of need by way of food, cash donations, a washer & dryer, etc.  They do kingdom work.  And it is impressive.  I think the Living Stones Church should bless them for living out what God has called them to.

So…let me see here…mind working….

Keller Park Missionary Church

Posted: May 15, 2009 in Church, vision

This is Keller Park Missionary Church.  I like this church.  Jennae Gee and I had lunch with their pastor, Ryan Yazel, on Wednesday.

They are in the middle of a neighborhood. I mean smack-dab-in-the-middle of the Keller Park neighborhood (more westside off Portage area).  They have a heart and vision for their neighborhood.  It is one of the most laser-focused and intentional that I’ve seen.

I like it.

Dear Living Stoners -

Just a few reminders:

1.  We are starting a BRAND NEW Care Ministry!!!  I’m very excited about it BECAUSE of so many people who have a gift of encouragement and mercy here at the Living Stones Church.  Kris Ballard, our Care Ministry leader, is having an informational and beginning point meeting on Sunday after each service (doesn’t matter which service you attend, there will be a meeting at the conclusion of each) in the conference room.  Come and check out the opportunities!!

2.  Our process of taking over ownership of the Miami Hills Apartments :-) is on this Saturday!!  (just kidding…kind of)  We have been collecting groceries with a set grocery list that will feed a family for a day.  By the way – our hallway is lined with groceries at the moment!!  On Saturday @ 11:00 a.m. we will meet at the church and then head on over to Miami Hills to deliver a bag of groceries to pretty close to every unit at the apartment complex!!  The catch?…THERE IS NONE! There are no strings attached.  We don’t preach, we don’t hand out tracts, we don’t even invite to church – just a quick action to say God loves them (shock and awe is what we are going for)…turn…and leave!!  An intentional and planned act of kindness.  Then…back to the church to debrief on how we complete our takeover…mmmhhhhhaaaaaaaa   mhhaaaaaaaa [evil laugh...but done with a grin]!!! :-)

Facebook Nation

Did you know that if Facebook were a nation, it would be the fifth largest nation in the world?

That is crazy to me.

Dear Lord,

Please let Sunday get here quickly so Obama can give his commencement address at Notre Dame University and be done with it.  And then please let South Bend return to normal without flying airplanes, trucks, protests, news coverage, and Tribune articles.

In Jesus’ Name…Amen.

Oh…P.S. Lord…please give us a winning football season in the Fall!

We are starting a new three week series entitled, “How to Be a Christian” beginning this Sunday!!  I’m most excited about the timing of this series with what has proceeded it.  We spent seven weeks in the gospel of Luke as well as four weeks talking about living a Viva la Vida kind of life which naturally begs the question…so what is the biblical response to Jesus and his promise of new, abundant, free, and eternal life?  Fortunately, God has given us in His Word a biblical response.  To that we go…beginning this Sunday, May 17th!!  Bring a friend as we begin this three week series.  And then…the week after the series is our Baptismal Celebration…LOVE the timing!!

Allison Sweeney….um…heeeeellllllooooo. :-)

Voting for Erinn and Amanda for a place on next season’s Biggest Lose is stupid.  They both look exactly the same and had nearly the exact same video story.  How in the world is America supposed to choose?  Based on what criteria?  (Amanda won)  But why?  I feel sorry for Erinn.

Estella (Lost 83 lbs. 34.30%) & Jerry (oldest contestant ever on Biggest Loser [64 years old] – Lost 177 lbs!! 47.97%) – Holy Cow!!!  Jerry took home the at-home $100,000 PRIZE!!

Damien (Lost 136 lbs. – 35.70%) & Nicole (Lost 123 lbs. – 45.72%)

Sione (Lost 146 lbs. – 39.25%) & Filipe (Lost 135 lbs. – 37.09%)

Carla (started as the heaviest woman ever on the Biggest Loser [389 lbs.] – Lost 128 lbs – 33.77%) & Joelle (Lost 80 lbs. – 25.89%)

Blaine (Lost 116 lbs. – 31.78%) & Dane (Lost 154 lbs. – 37.38%)

Mandi (Lost 92 lbs. – 34.98%) & Aubrey (Lost 55 lbs. – 22.09%) looked like Aubrey may have gained weight since leaving the ranch

Cathy (Lost 95 lbs. – 32.42%) & Kristin (wow…Kristin looks great!!!! – Lost 167 lbs – 46.39%)

David (Lost 43 lbs. – 10.94% - sad) & Daniel (heaviest contestant ever [started at 454 lbs.] – Lost 142 lbs – 31.28%)

Laura (Lost 86 lbs. – 30.18%)

Shannon [HELLO...HELEN...DID YOU SEE THE REPLAY...SHANNON DIDN'T WANT TO GO HOME!!!!] (Lost 92 lbs. – 32.51%) – good job Shannon!

Ron (Lost 192 lbs. – 44.65%)

FINALISTS WEIGHT IN:

Helen – (“I did it” – “I want it” – “I” “I” “I” “me” “me”…it’s all about “me”…) – Lost 140 lbs. – 54.47% (don’t like her…but I admit that is impressive…now go give your daughter a hug)

MikeLost 207 lbs. – 53.35% (so close)

Tara – won 12 challenges (record)…record for weight loss…for 18 weeks…NEVER went below yellow line…most any woman has ever lost on campus – Lost 155 lbs. -

Helen won.  I couldn’t be more disappointed.  I watched this show all season and one of the most unlikeable contestants just won.  Notice the crowd really isn’t into her victory.  Polite  applause.  One of the most selfish players just won.  Whatever.
