This morning Monroe Primary Center had their big Rededication Ceremony.  I was asked to give the Invocation AND Benediction.  It was quite an honor for me.  The first thing they did was rush me to a conference room where I sat with the Superintendent of schools, almost the entire school board (I know…here was my chance right…I have a few issues I would like to discuss), city government dignitaries, Architects, and me (can you say, “Which one doesn’t belong?”).  It was a great ceremony.  In the program there is a “Special Thanks To:” section.  The Living Stones Church got a shout out in that section!!!  It was sweet.  Here is a picture taken during the program.  I’m the goofy one all the way to the left (the one not wearing a tie & obviously distracted by something shiny to the left):

The reason I didn’t wear a tie is because Principal VanDriessche & Sharon Gilbert had a shirt made for me!!  My own Monroe shirt with my name embroidered in it!!  YES!!!  I’m beaming with pride in it!

Jesus’ Favorite Pizza

Posted: October 20, 2010 in Uncategorized

We were wrapping up our staff meeting when two girls from Little Caesars walks in with three pizzas and tells us it is a gift from Little Caesars.  I guess it was some promotional thing for local businesses that came along with some flyers.  But I believe that since I mention every week that it is Jesus‘ favorite pizza that He was the one who really sent them.  I love Jesus.

My Eight Year Old is Sorry

Posted: October 19, 2010 in Uncategorized

My little baby girl has lately been in the habit of saying she is “sorry” for everything (she probably gets that from her father :-) ).  If she detects at all that we are upset, angry, displeased, or disappointed she very quickly tells us she is “sorry.”  And then she insists on hearing a “you’re forgiven” in response.  Then in her mind we are all supposed to move on and forget about it (even if emotionally you don’t want to yet but now feel obligated to acknowledge a little girl’s apology).  I have a sneaky suspicion that her “sorry” might be a little more manipulative than she realizes (I hope she doesn’t read this blog or she will tell me she is sorry).  But more importantly, I think I might do this to God more than I would care to admit.  I very quickly want to confess it, tell God I’m sorry, and then – let’s move on!  The problem isn’t about whether God will forgive me or not.  The problem is that I’m really trying to manipulate God into not dealing with something deeper going on in me.  My “sorry” is just my attempt to get God to move on and not focus on what probably requires some more Spirit-driven sanctifying (which might be painful).  I think my “sorry” may not be as genuinely remorseful as I want to believe.  I think my “sorry” might really be another form of manipulation.  I wonder if God can see through that.

Caleb Turns Eleven

Today is Caleb’s eleventh birthday!  He wanted to celebrate at Red Lobster with their all you can eat shrimp dinner.  He thought that maybe being eleven now he could beat his dad.  He couldn’t.  But I love this kid.  Happy birthday Caleb Nathanael!!

German Apple Pie

My neighbor, Hilde, from across the street called me this morning.  I figured it was a neighborhood watch/crime issue.  Nope.  She asked, “Do you like apple pie?”  I thought about going into a Geico commercial as my response but was afraid she wouldn’t catch the humor in it.  ”YES!!!”  She replied, “I have one in the oven for you.  When it’s finished I’ll bring it over.”  Just before hanging up she said, “Oh, it’s a German apple pie.”  I have no idea what that means.  Hilde is from Germany.  I’m on my second piece.  I love Hilde.  I love Germany.

This is a REAL political ad being aired in Canada.  Sam Katz is the current mayor of Winnipeg and is up for reelection.  His opponent makes a fine case against him using a most unfortunate accident! :-)  I would vote for the opponent for the shear brilliance of this ad.

Today’s Lunch

I may eat more of this than what is normal.

I’ve never wanted one until watching this commercial.  Now I can’t stop fantasizing about one.  Or…maybe it is the Snuggie centerfold (just watch) that is doing this to me. :-)

Church Picture Thursday

In an hour and a half I’ll be in another church meeting with some Pastors.  I’m excited about the picture possibilities that await!  I wonder if they will notice if I’m meandering in their hallways. :-)

Picture taken from a local church hallway.  If I keep this up, none of my pastor friends are going to invite me into their churches! :-)  But I just HAD to share.
