Just a quick note to the posse that meets at the Living Stones Church:

I just wanted to remind you of two things for this coming weekend –

1.  Don’t forget about Growth Group sign-ups this coming Sunday.  If you haven’t signed up for a group yet, Sunday is THE day to do so.  You can do that in a couple of ways:  a) check the appropriate box on the Connection Card on Sunday’s bulletin; or b) send an e-mail directly to indicating which group you would like to be a part of.  These groups are excellent avenues of both spiritual growth and relationship with others.  There are a variety of groups…men’s, women’s, couples, open, etc.  Select the topic, time, and type best for you!  For a listing of the growth groups click here.

2.  We have received a special invitation from Pastor Michael Patton and the Kingdom Life Christian Cathedral to join them in a combined “visionary service” (this was the event we had to postpone in February) this coming Sunday at 4:00 p.m.  The service will be from 4:00 – 5:30 (to 5:45ish).  Our praise team will play, their praise team will play, Pastor Michael will talk about vision, I’ll preach…it will be awesome.  I promise this will be a great time to experience fellowship and different styles of worship!  We believe this is important, as we discussed two weeks ago Sunday, that we are driven by certain values – not the least of which is our stated desire to “value unity with one another and the larger body of Christ.”  For directions you can go to KLCC website, or meet at our church’s parking lot at 3:45 p.m. to carpool!

Google Reader

Posted: May 30, 2007 in technology

I am not very technologically savvy.  I’m trying to remedy that by reading some different things and trying different things.  To illustrate exactly how far I behind I am…I just discovered Google Reader  yesterday.  It has been 24 hours and already I don’t know how I lived without it!  What a time saver!  If you read multiple blogs…stop clicking on each blog, go to Google Reader (or other similar software) and allow it to do the work!

Google Reader finds all new posts from all of my favorite blogs and/or websites and then sends them to me in one easy page – all in one click!!!

Well, just write it down as another example as to why if you have some home repair that needs to be done, I’m not your man!  My in-laws are here for the week.  And as usual, we have a list for Dub (my father-in-law) in regards to things around the house that need to be fixed or repaired (because I’m a moron and can’t do it…and my dad never showed me how growing up…hear violins in the background).  In our bedroom we have a ceiling fan that for weeks has made a hideous sound when we turned it on.  Not like a background noise humming sound, but an obnoxious high pitched…keep you up at night sound!  So, I exhausted all of my fix-it skills (which entails spraying it with WD40…my answer to just about every home project).  So, I put it on the list for Dub.  Well, Dub fixed it.  Do you know what he did to fix it?  All it needed was…the light bulbs tightened!!!!  For weeks I either put up with the sound, or didn’t use the fan and all I had to do is TIGHTEN A FEW LIGHT BULBS!!!  Real man of genius here!

 Oh, is this too political?!?!!

2007 Pentecost at the Living Stones Church has come and gone.  Some of the highlights are:

  • Impromptu question and answer session in the middle of the welcome and announcements!  So that everyone is clear and on the same page: 1) we are starting growth groups on the week of June 10th.  If you happen to sign up for a growth group that would have started on Sunday afternoon of June 10th you will begin a week later or reschedule for another time so we can go to Potato Creek; 2) our combined worship with and at Kingdom Life Christian Catheral on June 3rd at 4:00 p.m. is an additional service to our one at 10:00 a.m.
  • Normal attendance was definitely effected by Memorial Day travel plans and graduations (although still up 38% from last year’s Memorial Day weekend).
  • Several new guests.
  • Looked like some good prayer time was happening after the service.
  • Preaching on the Holy Spirit…and making up new grammatical phrases as I went along (I should have majored in English!).
  • I love the song I Am Free.  Noticed a new ending to Deeper, which I enjoyed – and watched baby Gwen worshiping with gusto during the opening song.

Follow up from message.  Let me encourage you to spend time (daily if possible) praying and seeking after the things of the Spirit.  Trust and depend on Him to reveal Jesus’ truth to you in every aspect of your life this week.  Ask him to produce greater fruit in your life (and prune those areas that are keeping you from producing more).  And place yourself in ministry-life-opportunities that require empowerment and gifting from the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is the dynamic, life-giving, empowering gift of God that desires for you to live a miraculous life!  There are things that come into our life that we can only overcome though the supernatural empowerment of the Holy Spirit.  However, one of the principles of the Kingdom of God (in the main) is that God does not force himself on you.  If you don’t want more of him, he will not force himself on you.  But it is God’s great pleasure to give you more of the Holy Spirit.  Simply ask, seek, and knock.

The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)

I know this is the big Memorial Day holiday, but there is actually another holiday that is supposed to be MORE important to us as Christians than even Memorial Day (we will not be saying the pledge of allegiance in church on Sunday or singing hymns to America!).  Does anyone know what Sunday, May 27th is??  IT IS PENTECOST!

The time where we celebrate the fact that God promised to dwell in and among us until Jesus’ second coming through the HOLY SPIRIT!!  This is when we celebrate the empowering, dynamic, life-giving Holy Spirit!!  I know it is Memorial Day weekend and many of you have travel plans, and there are lots of graduations this weekend…but you don’t want to miss Sunday.  If you do, you will miss an infilling of the Holy Spirit and then while the rest of us are glowing and talking about how awesome it was you will feel awkwardly dim and left out of the whole experience!

So here is what you can expect on Sunday:

  • An awesome message on the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Some kicking Spirit-filled worship – including I Am Free
  • The presence of the Holy Spirit making real the resurrected Jesus.
  • 2999 baptisms (we don’t want to show up the original event)
  • Red cloth (symbol of Holy Spirit) on the cross…our attempt at symbolism for the liturgical calendar…next week will be green and mark “ordinary time” (if you have no idea what I just said, don’t worry about it).
  • Possibilities:  The sound of a violent wind, tongues of fire, and good coffee.
  • Me mysteriously glowing while preaching.
  • Serious opportunity to dive deeper into the life of the Holy Spirit to empower you to live a miraculous life for the glory of Jesus!
  • Fuel for life that isn’t $3.55 a gallon.

The topic of the Holy Spirit is one of my favorites.  It is also the one that I’ve had the most dramatic changein my life in regards to understanding and belief.  See you Sunday as we talk about the Unpredictable Wind that is the Holy Spirit.  Happy Pentecost…or Merry Pentecost…or Pentecost Greetings (what do you say??!)

Growing Blogs

Posted: May 24, 2007 in Uncategorized

I made May 24, 2007 Growing Blog’s list.  I was number 29!!  New record today.  Thanks to my peeps for the help!

Always curious about the inner thoughts of my middle son, Caleb.  He talks on his terms.  When he has something to say, he will say it.  If he doesn’t, he won’t…and you can’t force it out of him.  I’m always curious what he is thinking in regards to faith.  Sunday morning he turned in a “connection card” that gave me some insights into his thoughts about faith…and the physical condition of his dad.

A little background:  I showed a little clip from Rocky IV during my message.  Here was Caleb’s connection card:

As you can see:

1.  He is interested in baptism…good to know.

2.  He is interested in a growth group on Galatians…very impressive.

3.  He doesn’t think I look like Rocky!  Little Turkey.  He’s about to be in an infinite “timeout!”

Lost Season Finale

Anyone out there watch LOST?  I love the show.  Season Finale was last night.  I loved the episode, except the end!!  Any guesses as to what is going on?  What was up with Kate and Jack meeting at an airport?  Is this a future vision?  Did they get off the island?  Did Jack come back and end up being a mess?  If it is future, why did he ask for the other doctor to get his dad and see if he is as drunk as him?  Lots of questions (which is what a good season finale needs to do).  But now, I have too many questions!  A little frustrated…but man is it goooooddddd!!

Did I mention it is a gorgeous day!?!  I’m sitting on the front porch of the church with computer and working out here!  I rather like these green chairs!

My wife is crying

Jordin sang her last song.  My wife is crying.  I’m rolling my eyes.
