Tonight – NEW SEASON of LOST

Posted: January 31, 2008 in Culture

Dear “Anyone Who is Within My Pastoral Purview & Responsibility

If you could happen to not schedule any major life issues that require pastoral attention between 8-10 p.m. tonight, it would be greatly appreciated.  It is for a very good reason! 🙂

  1. My time at Lindenwood Retreat Center was good.  Like everyone else, it was raining pretty good and in the fifties…thirty seconds later…freezing with snow.  I almost couldn’t get my car doors open to come home.
  2. Love the new carpet in the hallways.  With all the new paint smells, carpet glue smells, etc…I’m pretty much buzzing all the time.  I love my job.
  3. New series begins Sunday.  I can’t wait to tell the Living Stones Church story.  Bring a friend!  Seriously!!  You don’t want to miss the opening announcements either…trust me!
  4. Good-bye John Edwards; good-bye Rudy Giuliani
  5. I’m getting old…I don’t like Winter much anymore.
  6. My grandmother turned 82 yesterday.  She has a full-key pad cell phone for text messaging.  She is more technologically savvy and hip than anyone else in the family.  Seriously.
  7. Caleb shoved a small plastic frog half way up his nose yesterday and went around asking, “Has anyone seen my frog?”  We are having him genetically tested.
  8. Super Bowl on Sunday is anti-climatic.  All of my teams lost.  I’m rooting for the commercials.
  9. Speaking of commercials…has anyone seen the Centennial commercial where the couple is all “baby talking” with one another and in the end the sales rep joins in…I laugh out loud every time I see it.
  10. The first month of January 2008 is already over!!
  11. Hearing several stories of pastors disqualifying themselves from ministry.  I’ll post on that soon.
  12. Another post coming:  Leading a church “playing to win” versus “playing not to lose.”  Big difference.

New message series we begin this Sunday!!  I am very excited!!

Day Retreat

After our staff meeting at noon, I’m headed out to the Lindenwood Retreat Center.  One of my goals for the year is to take a 24 hour block of time and go on retreat once a month.  I think clearer (and better) in those times.  I actually get a lot done – either by way of vision for church, prayer life, etc.

Sunday we talk about the Mission/Vision of the Living Stones Church.  The Lindenwood Retreat Center was very pivotal for me in those conversations with the Lord.  It will be good to enter those conversations, once again, in preparation for Sunday’s message.

New Carpet

Posted: January 29, 2008 in Living Stones Church

Even as we speak installers are putting in the church new carpet in the hallways and two offices!!!  VERY EXCITING!  If you ever noticed the old carpet you would note that it was nasty.  Due to our inside connections (thank you Randy Templeton) we were able to acquire a remnant carpet (meaning some other company that has more money than us had some left overs after their project) we were able to score some NEW carpet for CHEAP CHEAP!

Worship Band

Posted: January 27, 2008 in Living Stones Church, worship

Can I say that our worship team/band is “off the chain” awesome?!?!

Seriously, that is one massive collection of talent on one little stage!  This morning…it was good…really good!!

We wrapped up our In God We Trust? message series this morning.  It dealt with viewing and using our money for the sake of the Kingdom of God.  This morning the title of the message was Kingdomnomics

I just wanted to say how proud I am of the Living Stones Church.  In January we had the highest average monthly giving than at any time I can remember (and maybe ever).  I have heard stories of many people who this month have stepped out in huge faith to make some great stewardship moves!!  Right on!!

Our Stewardship ministry team has been meeting and they have come up with some great plans in regards to helping us be a “fully resourced” church.  This coming week we will share some of their ideas that are in the works!  I am also hoping to have a “Money Matters at Living Stones Church” CD of information for everyone that gives the details of our 2008 budget, some vision ideas we want to move in, and some helpful options for giving.

I love when good systems come into order!!!!!  Praise God!

O.K.  Jennae Gee brought this in today for some sort of decoration.  Does this scare anyone else?!?!  WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS THING?!!  I’m going to have nightmares tonight for sure.  Note to self:  Don’t let my kids go into Jennae’s office (or maybe that was her idea all along).

Speaking of Jennae’s office…I also found this just sitting in front of her computer on the desk.  Are these half eaten pizza crusts!!!?  What kind of joint are we running around here? 🙂

This is where you should be thinking to yourself:  “Note to self:  never work with Sam.  If I leave my office for a moment he will take pictures of my office and post them on his blog for the world to see…not cool dude!

Truth be told– Jennae can pretty much do whatever she wants.  We would shut down in about two days if she decided to leave. 🙂  Oh yea…she’s that good!
