Davidson vs. Kansas

Posted: March 30, 2008 in sports

What an exciting game!!!  OH MAN!  Kansas barely made it past no. 10 Davidson.  Even though Isaac and I picked Kansas in our bracket, we were pulling for the underdog Davidson.  Oh well.

Speaking of bracket.  Isaac and I are killing the competition in our family ESPN bracket 🙂 !! Yea that’s right…I’m talking smack!

Even though it has never happened in NCAA basketball history, Isaac and I picked all no. 1 seeds to be in the Final Four!

10,000 B.C.

Kelly and I went to see 10,000 B.C. last night.  It was BORING.  Bad script, bad acting, I’m not sure, other than everyone was dirty, what was so significant about the date – 10,000 B.C.  (outside of one saber-tooth tiger and some woolly mammoths) I actually fell asleep about 20 minutes into it.

Kelly’s assessment – “Disappointing.  The special effects were even disappointing”

Kids’ Choice Awards

Posted: March 29, 2008 in Culture, Family

Are there any other parents out there whose children WON’Tstop talking about Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards?  It’s on tonight (during NCAA basketball…oh the sacrifices we make).

According to a Men’s Health survey of the top 20 WORST foods for you in regards to health.  The #1 – worst food is:

2900 Calories (no that isn’t a typo)

182 g. fat

240 g. carbs

This explains so much!  Just so you know…in heaven these will be served at every meal!

So True

Posted: March 28, 2008 in Schools, South Bend

From Ron Rogers South Bend Tribune editorial cartoonist March 28, 2008

You are probably tired of me going on about the South Bend Community Schools.  But doggone-it they give me stuff to talk about on just about a daily basis.

The Superintendent and School Board have decided that they WILL NOT allow Hillary Clinton to make a campaign stop at Washington High School.  Read the story hereRepeat:  Hillary Clinton is not allowed at Washington High School.

Are these people nuts?!?  The reasons – not wanting to appear partisan and some policy that requires equal time for the other candidates!  What are these guys smoking?!  This isn’t about being partisan.  This isn’t about supporting Hillary Clinton.  (Although she is the former First Lady.  She is the Senator from New York.  And she is one of two Democratic candidates for the Presidency of the United States and she wants to make a stop at one of our High Schools.  And they said “no.”)

This is what it is about:  the best interest of the students!  What a huge civic lesson opportunity!  What a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these students to see a Presidential candidate (and the former First Lady and current Senator).  This could bring to life the importance of issues in this campaign and can get students engaged in ways that are significant.  And of course there isn’t equal airtime for the other candidates.  These three candidates don’t appear in every high school in America.  And when one of them (and I don’t care if it was John McCain, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton) is willing to come to your High School – you say “YES!” because of the amazing opportunity for THE STUDENTS!!  ISN’T IT SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THEM ANYHOW!!!?

Congratulations to Mishawaka schools and their school board for making a good decision

O.K.  I’ll quit shouting and calm back down now.
