Dishwasher Dilemma

Posted: April 5, 2009 in Uncategorized

Kelly and I are in a long-standing feud about the dishwasher.  She thinks you don’t need to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and that our dishwasher will clean just fine.  I believe they need to be rinsed before putting in the dishwasher.  What do you do?

  1. Barney says:

Deb and are on opposites sides on this one too. She insists on the dishes being totally rinsed before they go in the dishwasher…I think they will be just fine with food stuck to them. They always come out clean

  2. Jim Ruth says:

It all depends what the stuff is that is left. I ALWAYS wipe off anything with even the littlest peanut butter on it. Eggs? Yep I rinse. It depends on the Nasty Quotient- but mostly yes, I rinse.

  3. Melissa says:

Dishwashers are made to get that stuff off and you’re actually wasting water by rinsing. Love the planet a little, would ya?!

  4. The Bishop says:

Washing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher? Taking a sponge bath before stepping into the shower?

  5. katrina says:

i think it all depends on the dishwasher if it was old i would say rinse but if not load it up

  6. Lindsey says:

Have you looked in the bottom of your dishwasher lately? If you don’t rinse them before putting them in, the food doesn’t magically disappear! It has to go somewhere! Not to mention, rotting leftover food also starts to smell after awhile. You don’t wash food down the drain (unless you have a garbage disposal) so why would you leave food in your dishwasher drain? It’s a dishWASHER – not a garbage disposal.

  7. the wife says:

Actually dishwashers ARE DESIGNED to take bits of food down. The bottom of our dishwasher is perfectly clean, no food particles. Go to any sales department where they sell dishwashers and they will tell do not have to rinse the dishes. Thanks, Sam. Memaw is going to hate me now.

  8. the wife says:

Love ya, Lindsey..but the bottom of our dishwasher is perfectly clean and food particle free!! Thanks, Sam….Memaw is going to hate me now!

  9. The Bishop says:

Kelly, don’t worry about Memaw. You have a “get out of jail free card” from the whole family. No one ever dared to dream that Sam could get a wife who would give offspring the genetic chance to be good-looking. And, since he has garnered a wife far beyond their expectations and his seeming wowser-drawing abilities (i.e., he, like his father married above his head), you have nothing to worry about from Barringtons going back many generations.

  10. Lori says:

I rinse, but only because I have an older dishwasher. I actually would have to side with Kelly on this one. Maybe it is time to think about getting a newer dishwasher so I will not have to waste time rinsing.

  11. sister says:

come on people. I can not believe we are having this debate. Of course you rinse the dishes. That is just a basic truth and there is no sense in debating it any longer. The master has spoken. I think the more important discussion up for debate is toilet paper…..folding or wadding? Now lets discuss this.

  12. Janelle says:

I’d have to go with Kelly (and Melissa) on this one. And am I the only one that thinks dishwashers are silly anyway? I just don’t see the point of wasting that much water and power on something that takes 10 minutes to do. So what’s the point of wasting ADDITIONAL water to wash before washing?

  13. A wife and mom says:

I thought thats why we got married and had kids. So someone else can do the dishes.
