Question For Churches with Saturday Services

Posted: April 7, 2009 in Church, vision

Was curious if anyone in blog world would know the answer to this or could comment on their experience.  I know many churches that have successful Saturday evening services.  I was just curious how well do Saturday evening services go on Easter weekend.  I think it would seem a little strange celebrating Easter Sunday on Saturday.  But…I could be wrong.  It’s happened a time or two before.

I went last year, and yes it feels very odd. There’s just something about celebrating such a Holy event like the Resurrection a 12 hours early. It’s kind of like having a Good Friday service on Thursday. It just doesn’t feel right. But that’s just me.

  2. Janelle says:

The first few Easter Services I ever attended were on Saturday evening. It didn’t seem unusual to me because I usually attended church on Saturday evenings. I didn’t grow up in a church, so I had nothing to compare it to.

In today’s society with many people being part of a split family, I think we’ve grown used to having the celebration of a holiday on a different day than the holiday itself, or even celebrating it twice.

I think what matters is that you’re celebrating the Resurrection (not the Bunny) with family.

    –Just my opinion

the Church we went to in New York had 4 services…3 on sunday and one saterday night…it was great..had lotsa folks everyweek…. seemed like 2x on the holidays….

and I have to agree with Janelle, Easter Like Christmas, has gotten just to Commercial !!!
Its hard enough keeping the spirit, or giving the spirirt of God’s love, when your inondated with Easter bunny fluff….. and candy….. and Sales

I have done Thursday night and Good Friday services all with good turnouts, but never Easter on Saturday night. That would feel kind of wierd at first, but I suppose one would get used to it after the first few times.

Do I hear a proposal for Living Stones to add a Saturday night service? If you are count me in!!!!!!
    (just kidding lol)

  5. Barney says:

Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to attend a Saturday night Easter service but I know it works very well in many evangelical churches. It is a great opportunity for the poeple to attend church and attend family events and brunches. It may not work for the hard-core Christian but he celebrates resurrection every Sunday. It works well for the unchurched and should be given serious consideration to reach those not attending church every Sunday. I would love to see LSC pray and condsider a Saturday night service when we outgrow our two services.

  6. Dana says:

Through the years and the many churches (of different backgrounds) I’ve attended because of my moving around, it’s truly weird NOT to have a separate Easter Service. More often than not was the Sunrise Service outside as the sun rises, not the Saturday Night slot. Sunrise services often involve a church family breakfast before regular services start. The message is brief, the food is good, the fellowship is necessary.

On the other hand, we SHOULD have a Christmas Eve service. 🙂 I don’t like going to someone else’s church for Christmas Eve services anymore.

  7. Jim Ruth says:

I agree with Dana that we need a Christmas Eve service…just not on the 23rd.
