Remodeled Monroe School

Posted: August 24, 2010 in Living Stones Church, Schools, South Bend

This morning Jennae Gee, Amy Osterhout, and I took some breakfast to the teachers and staff at Monroe Primary Center as they had their first in-service of the new school year.  In addition, we dropped off A TON of school supplies thanks to the generosity of the Living Stones Church.  Thank you thank you thank you for buying school supplies!!

While there we got a tour of the newly remodeled building.  It is INCREDIBLE!!!  I didn’t even recognize the place (I went to Monroe when I was elementary school).  Everything has been updated.  They finally have air conditioning.  The rooms are totally decked out with Apple computers, modern electronics, and fancy-schmancy “smart boards.”  It looks great!!

Last year Monroe experienced the greatest increase in ISTEP test scores in the South Bend School Corporation.  With such an excellent context and environment for learning, there is no telling what could happen this year!  It is really exciting.  As we walked the hallways we could see the different classrooms and who was teaching.  As we walked the halls and noted the teachers Amy Osterhout, who has been in the school system for 15 years, commented, “This building is filled with some amazing teachers!”  One of them is my all time favorite teacher – Mrs. Killelea.  She was my 4th grade teacher.  She is back at Monroe this year!

Be praying for Jill VanDriessche and ALL of the teachers, staff, and students at Monroe as they begin the 2010-2011 school year!!
