Not Everyone is a Morning Person

With a tear in her eye…for existential reasons…my wife claims this is her new favorite commercial. ¬†Whatever…

Least favorite season.

Working hard and losing weight.  That is the drama and attraction of the show.  It needs nothing else.  Come on Biggest Loser Producers!!!

Anniversary Gift

I know you aren’t supposed to get like cookware or cleaning apparatuses as a gift for your wife. ¬†But on our 18th anniversary her request was a steam/vac shark. ¬†So – that is what she got. ¬†Seems more practical than jewelry! ūüôā

Adding Elders

Just a reminder to the Living Stoners

You will want to be there this Sunday, October 24th as we commission three new elders:

  • Jeff Gritton
  • Jim Ruth
  • Jim Silk

What a huge blessing to our church.  Very thankful.  Look forward to seeing you Sunday as we celebrate together.

Thank You Jeff Hammett

Caleb’s 1st Basketball Game

Posted: October 21, 2010 in Uncategorized

Caleb went out for the 5th grade basketball team at Jackson Middle School.  This afternoon was his first game.  They played Marshall, Xavier, and LaSalle Schools.  They beat all three teams and went undefeated.  When Jackson played Xavier, Caleb played against fellow Living StonerGideon Mwaura who smiled even during heated competition!  Living Stones VS. Living Stones.  Caleb fouled Gideon.  Here he is at the free throw line with Caleb looking on:

At a town hall meeting last night between the three candidates for District 2 School Board representative the question was asked, “What would you do to turn around the negative media coverage of South Bend Schools?”

Ralph Pieniazkiewicz (current school board member) responded, “Get another paper in town.” ¬†Then he went on to say that the South Bend Tribune never covers the good things going on in the public school. ¬†He claims to have invited them to go with him into the schools and see the stories that are good and positive about South Bend Schools and they have never responded.

Quite honestly, my tendency is to roll my eyes at his response (I’m not sure if it is because of my political persuasion or the point Mr. Pieniazkiewicz was making). ¬†Really? ¬†The South Bend Tribune refuses to print a positive story about South Bend Schools.

But then this morning I woke up to check the¬†newspaper to see their story on Monroe Primary Center’s big rededication ceremony…and not a thing. ¬†Not a blurb. ¬†Not a reference. ¬†Not a picture. ¬†Nothing that communicates a massive renovation is complete and yesterday the student body, staff and teachers, the Superintendent of Schools, the school board, the mayor’s office, etc. gathered to celebrate!!! ¬†NOTHING!!! ¬†Complete silence.

Maybe Mr. Pieniazkiewicz was telling the truth after all

Oh…the Tribune did have an eight by six inch photo on the front page of the Local section of clouds early in the morning over Lake of the Woods. ¬†But…nothing on Monroe Primary Center.

South Bend Tribune…pffft.

So I go into Ann Lynn’s office (LSC Administrative Assistant) and she has sitting on top of a filing cabinet a box full of old barf bags & motion sickness bags in a box with some old school numbers we used to use for an old attendance board we had in the front of the auditorium (yea…that is old school). ¬†I thought, “Why does Ann have barf bags in her office? ¬†Is this job making her sick?” ¬†And why are they with attendance numbers? ¬†Was it so bad that the person putting the numbers on the board felt like they were about to vomit and thus needed to keep a supply of barf bags handy? ¬†Weird. ¬†Apparently the working conditions of LSC can make you sick.

I know it is sort of late notice, but I want to encourage any South Siders who might be interested Рthere is a Town Hall Meeting at Hamilton Traditional School tonight @ 6:30 p.m. between the three candidates who are running for the District 2 School Board position:  1) Ralph Pieniazkiewich (I); 2) John F. Stancati; and 3) Michael M. Voll.

I was asked to moderate the meeting which I would LOVE to do. ¬†Unfortunately, I had another meeting scheduled and can’t be in attendance. ¬†I’m sending my wife to take good notes! ¬†But I think this is an excellent forum and if you could make it – I think it would be helpful to you.

[I’ll leave my political opinions on this matter out of this post…for now. ūüôā ]
