Just got back from a Christmas vacation with the in-laws in St. Louis.  Excellent trip back home.  Unpacked the car in record time…and unpacked the suitcase with lightening speed.  Now…I’m eyeing the Christmas tree that is still up in the living room.

Good to be home.

Now discuss

Wednesday and Thursday were great days as 1000 students came to our Christmas Store and were able to select a pair of gloves, hat, and then a book (by the way if you are wondering…Diary of a Wimpy Kid is VERY popular).  We then wrapped it up and put it in a Christmas gift bag. 1000 students!! Every child at Monroe and Lincoln Primary Centers took home a gift bag!! 1000 students!! And we even had some left over (which is good because you don’t want the last kid in the school to show up and there is one book and one hat and gloves to choose from)!!! 1000 students. That is OVER 1000 books, 1000 hats, and 1000 gloves.

Why?  Because of the generosity of the Living Stones Church!  We debated in a leadership meeting whether we could do it.  We knew we could provide for Monroe, but we thought we should expand and include Lincoln as well.  In the end, we decided it would be our “Sun Stand Still” prayer and we would simply act in faith.  And God provided through YOU!!!!

Thank you to so many who went and purchased books, hat, or gloves, gave money, and/or volunteered your time to help everything go smoothly and successfully.  A big THANK YOU to Amy Osterhout who organized everything and did an excellent job.  Really…it was VERY smooth.

On Sunday check out some of the “Thank you” cards and banners the kids at the schools made for us.  They will be on the lobby wall!  Very sweet!!!

22 Million Hits and Counting

If I were this kids parent I’m not sure if I would hug him or ground him.

He has 22 MILLION views on YouTube.  Viral videos are a crazy phenomenon.

Erskine Candlelight Walk & UFC 124

Posted: December 11, 2010 in Uncategorized

There are two great things in my near future:

1.  The Erskine Blvd. Candlelight Walk from dusk to 9:00 p.m.  Come on out to walk down Erskine with all the luminaries, and then stop off at Living Stones Church for some hot chocolate, cookies, manger scene, and farm animals!!!  The whole neighborhood comes out to play!

2.  Right after – UFC 124 as I eagerly hope and anticipate one George St. Pierre is going to crush Josh Koscheck!!

Give 2010 Follow-Up

Posted: December 9, 2010 in Living Stones Church

Just an update on where we are for the Give 2010.  (For information on Give 2010 check out my previous blog post here.)  Thinks are looking great!  I’m very thankful for the generosity of the church and believe we are going to do this!!

This is a reminder, if you need one, that all books, gloves, and hats are due THIS SUNDAY, December 12th!!

If you haven’t made any purchases yet we could use more gloves, hats, and children’s books that are appropriate for the younger grades K-2nd grade.

Sunday’s Scholastic Book Fair was great!!  Thank you again for your generosity.  Next week is going to be amazing.

Tonight I took the staff and leaders of the Living Stones Church to Papa Vino’s restaurant to say THANK YOU for the countless hours of time, energy, investment, sacrifice, and work they have poured into the life and ministry of the church.

I have two pages full of bullet points (at size 8 font) of things that happened at LSC this year to celebrate.  (I’ll go over the list with the whole church on January 2nd).

I confess we may have gotten out of hand in the restaurant with our conversation and laughter.  It may have irritated or offended those around us.  But to cover, as soon as we thought we might be an irritant, we quickly referred to ourselves as Southgate Church and Jim Ruth kept calling me Edgar.  So…we should be good.  I’ll confess to Edgar Cabello later to ease my conscience. 🙂

Connection Card

My nine year old daughter on Sunday, instead of checking that she is All-In here at the Living Stones Church, checked – “I come here regularly, but I’m leaving my options open.”

Is she trying to tell me something?

Growing Generosity in Your Kids

Follow up from yesterday’s Taming the Christmas Monster message.  I read this blog post this morning from Michael Hyatt.  Excellent little post on helping your kids be generous for Christmas.
