Living Stones Church Give 2010

Posted: December 2, 2010 in Living Stones Church, Schools, South Bend, vision

Give 2010 is underway!!!  I am very excited.  I have also witnessed some great acts of generosity (just experienced one a few moments ago as someone stopped by to hand me a check) so that we can fulfill our mission – which is:

There are approximately 1000 children (grades Kindergarten – 4th grade) in these two schools.  They are the closest primary centers to the Living Stones Church and they are both Title 1 schools (meaning that they have a high percentage of families who are resource-challenged).

So, this year, we are going to have a Christmas Store at Monroe school on December 15th where every class will have a chance to come to the “Christmas store” and every student will pick a book they would like, a hat they desire, and a pair of gloves.  Then we will place it in a “Christmas bag” and they get to take it home and have something to keep them warm and challenge their mind.  On December 16th we will go to Lincoln school and do the exact same thing!!   (by the way that is 1000 books / 1000 hats / and 1000 gloves)

It is going to be great.  Both schools are very excited and so – WE ARE COMMITTED!!! But we can’t do this without YOU and a flexing of great generosity.  We have asked people to take a snowflake which represents each child.  There are still plenty on our Christmas tree.  If you took two, but can take two more – DO IT! If you can take ten – DO IT!

Scholastic Books will be here this coming Saturday and Sunday.  The books are already arranged based on grade level.  As a bonus for us, if you purchase a book from Scholastic books, a percentage of the sale goes right back to the church which in turn allows us to invest that money right back into more books!

If you don’t have time to shop and just want to write a check or give cash – we will take that too (just write Give 2010 in the memo section)!!

I know we can do this.  And I know this will be a great blessing to a lot of children.  Let me thank you in advance for your generosity and willingness to help others during this Christmas season.

A list of recommended books by grade level or a flyers that you can hand to family or friends who might be interested in participating can be found right here!!

Just a shout out to scholastic books. If you have not bought a book….do it through the scholastic book fair this Saturday and Sunday. They have the most current and popular books on hand that the students love. They are always cheaper and a portion goes back to the church’s mission. Plus….this is a great place to buy books for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc. on your Christmas list. I can not over emphasize how great, easy, and grade appropriate the scholastic book fair is. GO TO THE BOOK FAIR TO PURCHASE YOUR BOOKS!! It will make you happy, the child your buying for happy, and will help clean up the environment (OK that last part might not be totally true).

Hi Sam – I stumbled on your blog from a post back in 2007. I’m an elder of a Church of Christ in Central Florida. Except for the name change (funny how we were talking about it last night at our elders meeting) I believe our church has been on a similar journey as yours.
We have a “blended (instrumental and acapella) service” and we’ve been booted from a local Bible Camp for such. Yet, God has opened some doors that we weren’t even aware of until our “journey.” I would love to talk to you some time. Feel free to email me. God’s blessings.
