Things That Disturb Me in the Bible

Posted: January 5, 2011 in faith

I have a long list.

I’ll just give you one this morning.

Genesis 12.  Abram (yea…the famous one who God chooses to bless the whole earth and who is the Father of our Faith) goes to Egypt because of a famine.  The problem:  He has a hot wife and he thinks the Egyptians will kill him to get his wife.  Solution:  lie and say she is his sister.  Then they will treat him well.  And that is what happens.  Sarai ends up living with Pharoah (doing what…I don’t know…but Pharoah married her so I can only assume..) and in return Abram scores sheep, oxen, donkeys, camels, and servants – both male and female.

So – did Abram pimp out his wife?  Looks like it to me.

The only thing that stops this situation is when God sends plagues on Pharoah (who only took Abram at his word) for taking Sarai as his wife.

This disturbs me.

  1. Lori says:

Hey Sam…Was not Abram and Sari related before marrying? I think they were like half siblings or cousins, if I am recalling correctly. But, in the end, he did not tell the entire truth and DID pimp out his wife. What is even weirder is that it happens again with Isaac. You would think that they would have learned something. The thing that really creeps me out is that Abram is paid a lot of money to make up for the lie he told. No wonder things are so out of hand these days. It is Abram’s fault lol.
