Hanging Out With Nuns

Posted: September 15, 2011 in Uncategorized

Today I’m leaving to spend the next 24+ hours at a Retreat Center.  It is my “quiet place.”  There is a convent on the property so it feels like I don’t ever see anyone with the exception of an occasional nun.  Last night we had a leadership meeting and I asked everyone to state what spiritual discipline they most easily gravitate towards and which spiritual discipline they have the most difficult time with.  My most difficult is silence.  And I don’t mean just not talking.  I mean silence.  Like, no iPod, no TV, no radio, no podcast, no grooveshark.com, no iTunes, no internet, no phone, no human beings to talk to.  Just silence.  It takes me a while to get into it, but once I finally rest in the midst of it – it is powerful to me.
